Generally healthy adults aged 18–60 experiencing mild to moderate stress may be eligible for this four-week, ethics-approved clinical trial.

An independently managed clinical trial
This randomised, controlled study is investigating Vanizem®, an extract of Aframomum melegueta, commonly known as grains of paradise.
Researchers will examine self-reported stress, mood, sleep and fatigue. Blood and saliva markers associated with mood, sleep and brain activity will also be assessed.
What participation involves

A researcher will discuss the study and assess your eligibility.
Attend a baseline visit
Complete questionnaires, a blood test and basic health measurements in Duncraig.
Take study capsules
Take one Vanizem® or placebo capsule daily for 28 days.
Complete brief check-ins
Record mood and sleep daily and complete short online questionnaires.
Attend the final visit
Return after four weeks for follow-up assessments.
Who may be suitable?
You may be eligible if:
- You are aged 18–60 years
- You are experiencing mild to moderate stress
- You have been a non-smoker for at least 12 months
- Your BMI is between 18 and 35 kg/m²
- You can attend two appointments in Duncraig
- You can comply with the study procedures
Time and travel
Participant compensation
Participants receive a $30 gift voucher at the first visit and a $150 gift voucher at the final visit. Participants allocated to placebo are also offered a complimentary 28-day supply of Vanizem® after completing the study.
