Volunteers are needed to examine the effects of a nutritional beverage on mood and general wellbeing in healthy adults.
This study is only available for people able to travel to our office in Duncraig, WA 6023
In this study, we are examining the rapid effects of the single ingestion of a beverage containing an aromatic ingredient found in some plants and foods on mood and general wellbeing in healthy adults.
PLEASE NOTE: Travel to our office located in Duncraig is required on 3 occasions over a 1 to 2-week period
There is no cost for participating in this study. To compensate you for your time and travel costs, you will be given an $80 Coles/Myer group gift voucher each time you visit our office (on 3 occasions).
If you are a healthy adult aged between 20 and 39 years, we invite you to participate in this randomised, controlled study.
This study consists of the following:
- Participate in a 10-minute phone interview to discuss the study and assess your eligibility to participate.
- Attend an initial face-to-face SCREENING assessment located in our offices in Duncraig. During this 75-minute visit, we will measure your blood pressure, weight, height, and heart rate. You will also drink a beverage and will be required to complete several questionnaires about your mood and general wellbeing before and 30 minutes after the ingestion of this drink.
- Based on your responses during this visit, we will decide whether you will proceed to the next stage of the study.
- If you are selected to proceed to the next stage of the study, you will visit our offices on 2 more occasions (1 to 5 days apart) for a 75-minute assessment. Again you will be required to drink a nutritional beverage (or a placebo beverage) and will undergo the same evaluations completed during your first visit.

To be INCLUDED in the study, the following inclusion criteria must be met:
- You are a healthy adult (male or female) aged between 20 and 39 years
- You have a body mass index (BMI) between 18 and 30 kg/m2
- You are a non-smoker
- You are willing to provide a personally signed and dated informed consent form detailing all pertinent aspects of the trial
If any of the exclusion criteria below are met, you will not be suitable for participation in this study:
- You are currently taking any pharmaceutical medications
- You are currently taking nutritional or herbal supplements that might affect your mood, metabolism or sleep. You may be eligible to participate in the study if you can stop taking these supplements during the study (for approximately 1 week)
- You suffer from a significant/uncontrolled medical condition
- You currently suffer from significant allergies
- You consume more than 6 standard drinks of alcohol per day
- You have significant inconsistency in the timing of meals from day to day
- You have an irregular sleep patterns(e.g., night shift worker)
- You have participated in another clinical trial in the last month
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- In the last 3 months, you have experienced major stresses or lifestyle changes, or expect these to occur in the next month
This study has been approved by the National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM) Ethics Committee (Reference number: 0144E_2024)
